Sonoma Biotherapeutics Appoints Stephen Dilly as Chief Executive Officer

Sonoma Biotherapeutics, Inc., a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on developing engineered regulatory T cell (Treg) therapies for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, has appointed Stephen Dilly, MBBS, PhD, as President, Chief Executive Officer, and member of the Board of Directors.

As part of this transition, co-founder Jeff Bluestone, PhD, will move into an advisory role while continuing to serve on the Company’s Board of Directors.

The leadership change follows Sonoma Biotherapeutics’ recent announcement of positive interim safety and efficacy results from the first-in-human clinical study of its lead Treg therapy, SBT-77-7101, in patients with refractory rheumatoid arthritis, marking a significant milestone for the company.

Dr. Dilly brings nearly four decades of global experience in biotechnology and pharmaceutical leadership, with a strong track record in company building, business development, and drug commercialization. Most recently, he served as Chairman, President, and CEO of Codexis, Inc., and continues to serve as Chair of the Codexis Board. Prior to Codexis, Dr. Dilly was President and CEO of Sierra Oncology, which was acquired by GlaxoSmithKline. Earlier in his career, he led Aimmune Therapeutics as CEO through its acquisition by Nestlé Health Science.

Dr. Dilly has also held senior executive roles at Genentech, Chiron, and SmithKline Beecham, contributing to the development, approval, and launch of more than twenty-five marketed medicines across multiple therapeutic areas. He holds an MBBS and a PhD in Cardiac Physiology from the University of London.

Jeff Bluestone, PhD, who has guided Sonoma Biotherapeutics since its founding in 2019, will continue to support the company’s strategic direction as Advisor, ensuring continuity as SonomaBio advances its Treg pipeline toward further clinical development.
