Maxion Therapeutics, a biotechnology company pioneering KnotBody® antibody-based drugs for ion channel and G protein coupled receptor (GPCR)-driven diseases, has appointed Dr. Santiago Arroyo as a Non-Executive Director.

Dr. Arroyo brings over 25 years of experience spanning clinical practice and senior leadership roles in biotech and pharma. He is currently a board member and Chair of Lundbeck’s Science Committee and serves as a Non-Executive Director at GlycoEra, a Swiss biotech advancing extracellular protein degraders for autoimmune diseases.

Most recently, Dr. Arroyo was Chief Development Officer at Bicycle Therapeutics in Cambridge, U.S., where he guided the advancement of the company’s oncology portfolio. His earlier executive roles include Chief Medical Officer positions at Fulcrum Therapeutics, Momenta Pharmaceuticals, and Boston Pharmaceuticals, where he oversaw programs in rare diseases, neuromuscular disorders, haematology, immunology, neurology, oncology, and infectious diseases. At Momenta, he was instrumental in developing nipocalimab (IMAAVY™), recently approved by the U.S. FDA for generalized myasthenia gravis. Momenta was acquired by Johnson & Johnson for US$6.5 billion during his tenure.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Arroyo held senior roles at Pfizer, Bristol Myers Squibb, Eisai, and Schwarz Pharma. Before transitioning to industry, he was a practicing neurologist at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona, Instructor in Neurology at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and Associate Professor of Neurology at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Dr. Arroyo holds an MD from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and a PhD from the University of Barcelona, with over 95 peer-reviewed publications and 32 book chapters to his credit.
