Steve Smith

iXCells Biotechnologies (“iXCells”), a leading provider of human cell-based solutions and custom induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) services, has appointed Steve Smith as Chief Executive Officer. 

Previously serving as Chief Commercial Officer, Smith will lead the company’s next phase of growth, focusing on execution and delivery as demand continues to rise for scalable, high-quality, and human-relevant preclinical models.

Smith brings more than 25 years of experience in the life sciences industry, with a career spanning senior commercial leadership roles across global life science tools and services organizations. His background includes leadership positions at Thermo Fisher Scientific and Abcam, where he served as North American Sales Leader and Vice President of Cell Lines. Most recently, Smith was Chief Commercial Officer at seqWell, a provider of genomic library preparation and multiplexing workflow solutions.

Smith’s appointment marks a significant milestone for iXCells as the company expands its capabilities to support larger and more complex preclinical programs while strengthening multi-study collaborations with biotechnology, pharmaceutical, academic, and contract research organization (CRO) partners.

During his tenure as CCO, iXCells launched two major initiatives that are shaping its next stage of growth. These include iPSCore, a discovery support platform designed to accelerate precision drug development in rare diseases through integrated project management and assay development, and Project Mosaic, a pilot program focused on developing patient-specific models of sporadic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) by adapting methodologies originally developed in oncology research.

This leadership transition reinforces iXCells’ commitment to advancing scientific discovery through expanded custom iPSC offerings and enhanced preclinical services, positioning the company as a trusted partner in human-relevant translational research.
