Matthias Schäfer

Topadur Pharma AG, a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on developing innovative therapies for vascular regeneration, has appointed PD Dr. Matthias Schäfer as Chief Executive Officer. 

His appointment marks a key milestone as the company advances its pipeline toward later-stage clinical development and future commercialization.

Dr. Schäfer joined Topadur in 2024 as Chief Innovation Officer and Deputy CEO, where he played a central role in shaping the company’s scientific and clinical strategy. In his new role as CEO, he assumes full executive leadership responsibility, guiding Topadur through its next phase of growth with a focus on advancing clinical programs, strengthening operational capabilities, and preparing the organization for long-term value creation.

Founder Dr. Reto Naef will remain closely involved in the company’s leadership. He continues to serve as President of the Board and will take on the role of Senior Scientific Advisor, ensuring continuity in Topadur’s strategic vision and ongoing commitment to scientific excellence.

Dr. Schäfer brings more than two decades of experience across the life sciences and healthcare sectors. His background includes leading research and clinical development initiatives, driving global portfolio expansion, and establishing strategic partnerships across multiple therapeutic areas. He has held senior leadership positions at companies such as Geistlich Pharma AG and pfm medical GmbH, where he successfully translated scientific innovation into sustainable commercial growth and expanded international market presence.

Dr. Schäfer holds a PhD in Biology from the University of Würzburg and completed his habilitation at ETH Zurich. His combination of scientific depth, strategic leadership, and industry experience positions him well to lead Topadur as it advances its mission to develop transformative therapies for vascular regeneration.
