Tom Cavanaugh
Johnson & Johnson has announced that Jennifer Taubert will retire from her position as Executive Vice President and Worldwide Chairman of Innovative Medicine following a distinguished career and more than 21 years with the company.
She will be succeeded by Tom Cavanaugh, who currently serves as Company Group Chairman, North America, Innovative Medicine. Cavanaugh will assume the new role in September 2026 and join the Johnson & Johnson Executive Committee.
During her tenure, Taubert played a key role in transforming Johnson & Johnson’s pharmaceutical business, with the Innovative Medicine segment growing to more than $60 billion in annual revenue under her leadership. She contributed to global commercial strategy, acquisitions, therapeutic-area development, and the transformation of the company’s North American business before becoming Worldwide Chairman.
Taubert also helped accelerate the development and delivery of medicines across oncology, immunology, neuroscience, cardiovascular disease, and other areas of significant unmet medical need. She has been recognized among Fortune’s Most Powerful Women for 10 consecutive years and has been an influential voice on healthcare access, innovation, and patient outcomes.
Cavanaugh joined Johnson & Johnson in 2017 and has held senior leadership positions across oncology, immunology, and global commercial strategy. Most recently, he led the company’s largest commercial region, focusing on growth, execution, and organizational excellence.
Before joining Johnson & Johnson, Cavanaugh spent nearly 15 years at Celgene, where he held roles spanning global product development, global medical affairs, global and regional marketing, and regional management in Spain and the United States.
With nearly three decades of biopharmaceutical experience, Cavanaugh brings broad expertise across therapeutic areas, commercial functions, and international markets to his new leadership role.
