Prokarium, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company at the forefront of microbial immunotherapy, has appointed Ibs Mahmood as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), marking a significant leadership transition as the company accelerates its strategic and clinical ambitions.

Mahmood steps into the role following the tenure of Kristen Albright, who will now join Prokarium’s Board of Directors, ensuring continuity and continued guidance as the organisation advances its innovative pipeline.

With an impressive 25-year track record as a biotechnology entrepreneur, Mahmood brings deep expertise in building, scaling, and financing life science companies. Throughout his career, he has founded and led several high-growth ventures through key inflection points, including clinical development, major fundraising rounds and transformative strategic partnerships. His leadership has resulted in raising over US$300 million for his own companies and more than US$2 billion on behalf of clients across the global life sciences ecosystem.

Mahmood previously co-founded and helmed companies such as AMO Pharma, DrugDev and Induction Healthcare, all of which benefitted from his ability to blend scientific insight with commercially focused strategy. His earlier experience spans respected organisations including IQVIA, Abingworth, Shire Pharma and Investec, further strengthening his breadth of industry understanding. He also brings a strong academic foundation, having read medicine at the University of Oxford.

As Prokarium continues advancing its microbial immunotherapy programs, Mahmood’s appointment signals a renewed focus on innovation, clinical progress and long-term value creation - positioning the company for an ambitious and impactful next chapter.
