Neil Gallagher
The appointment strengthens the company's leadership as it advances the development of dencatistat, its first-in-class CTPS1 inhibitor, for the treatment of essential thrombocythaemia, lymphoma, and solid tumors.
Dr. Gallagher brings more than 25 years of experience in hematology and oncology, having held senior executive leadership roles across several global pharmaceutical companies. Throughout his career, he has played a pivotal role in advancing innovative therapies from development through regulatory approval across multiple therapeutic areas.
Previously, Dr. Gallagher served in executive leadership positions at Amgen, AstraZeneca, Novartis, and AbbVie. As Chief Medical Officer at AbbVie, he led the company's development organization and supported multiple regulatory approvals spanning immunology, oncology, neuroscience, and eye care. He also served as President and Head of Research and Development at Syndax Pharmaceuticals, where he oversaw the FDA approvals of revumenib and axatilimab.
In addition to his executive leadership roles, Dr. Gallagher currently serves as a Non-Executive Director at Foghorn Therapeutics and iOnctura, while also acting as a Board Advisor to Nouscom. His career includes significant contributions to the development of breakthrough oncology therapies, including venetoclax during his tenure at AbbVie.
Dr. Gallagher earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Trinity College Dublin and a Ph.D. in Cancer Biology from University of Birmingham. He is also a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
His appointment enhances Step Pharma's strategic and scientific leadership as the company continues advancing its pipeline of targeted cancer therapies.
