Gesynta Pharma Appoints Eva Johnsson as Chief Medical Officer and VP of Clinical Development

Gesynta Pharma AB, a clinical-stage pharmaceutical company advancing novel therapies for chronic inflammatory conditions, has appointed Eva Johnsson as its new Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Vice President of Clinical Development.

Eva Johnsson is a seasoned leader in clinical drug development and medical affairs, bringing extensive experience in regulatory strategy, clinical execution, and drug commercialization. She joins Gesynta from Grünenthal, where she served as Senior Global Program Lead in the pain and inflammation therapeutic area. Prior to that, she held multiple senior leadership positions at AstraZeneca R&D, overseeing global clinical programs. Eva is also an Associate Professor at the University of Gothenburg.

This leadership transition comes as Gesynta prepares to initiate a Phase II clinical trial of vipoglanstat, its lead candidate for the treatment of endometriosis - a chronic inflammatory disease affecting one in ten women of reproductive age. Vipoglanstat, a non-hormonal therapeutic, has demonstrated both analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects in preclinical models. The upcoming clinical proof-of-concept study will enroll approximately 190 patients across Europe.

Concurrent with Eva Johnsson’s appointment, Charlotte Edenius, previously VP of Clinical R&D, will transition to a broader strategic position as VP of R&D Strategy, continuing to play a key role in shaping Gesynta’s long-term research and development pipeline.
