Alterome Therapeutics, Inc., a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing next-generation small molecule targeted therapies for cancer, has appointed Leonardo Faoro, MD, MBA, as Chief Medical Officer.

Dr. Faoro will oversee the company’s clinical strategy and execution, including the advancement of ALTA3263, a pan-KRAS ON/OFF inhibitor, and ALTA2618, a mutation-selective AKT1 inhibitor. Both programs are currently in Phase 1/1b development, with initial data anticipated in 2026.

Dr. Faoro brings more than 16 years of oncology drug development experience. Most recently, he served as Chief Medical Officer at Quanta Therapeutics, where he led the clinical development of several novel KRAS inhibitors. Prior to that, he held senior leadership roles at Exelixis, including Senior Vice President and Early Clinical Development Lead, as well as Vice President of Clinical Development (Late-Stage), expanding the early-stage pipeline and leading development of the GI and thyroid franchise for cabozantinib (Cabometyx®/Cometriq®).

Earlier in his career, Dr. Faoro served as Vice President of Clinical Development at OncoMed Pharmaceuticals and held roles of increasing responsibility at Genentech, contributing to the global development of bevacizumab (Avastin®) across multiple tumor types. He earned his MD from Universidade Federal do Paraná, trained at Mayo Clinic and the University of Chicago, and holds an MBA from Columbia University and UC Berkeley.
