A Novel Oral Therapy Discovered to Treat Adult Patients with Metastatic RET Fusion-Positive Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
Blueprint Medicines Corporation has developed GAVRETO™, an innovative treatment option for adult patients diagnosed with metastatic Rearranged during Transfection (RET) fusion-positive Non-small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC).
GAVRETO is an oral therapy that specifically targets and effectively inhibits RET alterations, which are known to contribute to various types of cancers, including approximately 1 to 2 percent of NSCLC patients.
By providing a twice-daily oral treatment, GAVRETO has the potential to significantly improve the standard of care for patients with RET fusion-positive non-small cell lung cancer, who currently have limited treatment options available.
However, it's important to note that GAVRETO may come with certain side effects, including interstitial lung disease/pneumonitis, hypertension, hepatotoxicity, hemorrhagic events, impaired wound healing, and potential risks to fetal development.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted approval for GAVRETO™ (pralsetinib) as a treatment for adult patients with metastatic RET fusion-positive Non-small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC). This approval marks a significant milestone in providing patients with an effective therapy for their condition.
