GSK Launches First RSV Vaccine for Older Adults

GSK has revealed Arexvy, the first adjuvanted vaccination for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), which is specifically developed to prevent RSV-related lower respiratory tract disease (LRTD) in older individuals.

RSV is a highly contagious respiratory infection with potentially severe effects, accounting for roughly 14,000 fatalities and 177,000 hospitalizations among people aged 65 and older in the United States each year.

Based on the main AReSVi-006 phase III trial, GSK's FDA-approved vaccine demonstrated outstanding efficiency, with an overall effectiveness of 82.6% against RSV-LRTD in adults over 60 years old and 94.6% in those with underlying health problems.

Arexvy had a favourable safety profile, with mild to moderate and transitory adverse effects such as injection site soreness, fatigue, muscle pain, headaches, and joint pain observed.
