Denovo Biopharma Announces Groundbreaking Precision Medicine for Treatment-Resistant Depression
Denovo Biopharma LLC has shared news about its recent clinical trial. The trial, called ENLIGHTEN, tested a drug named DB104 also known as liafensine, in patients who haven’t had success with other treatments for depression.
The results were positive, showing that DB104 could be both effective and safe for those struggling with severe depression that hasn't responded to other medications.
This drug works by targeting three key neurotransmitters in the brain: serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine.
This approach aims to provide a more comprehensive solution for those who haven’t responded to current treatments.
In a recent Phase 2b clinical trial, the trial found that patients with a specific genetic marker (DGM4) who took liafensine had notable improvements in their depression symptoms compared to those who received a placebo.
Specifically, patients reported a 4.4-point drop on the Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) and a 36% improvement on the Clinical Global Impressions Scale-Severity (CGI-S), both measures of depression severity.
The drug was also well tolerated by participants, and its safety profile matched what was observed in earlier studies. These positive results suggest that liafensine could be a valuable new option for individuals struggling with TRD.
