Deciphera Pharmaceuticals’ Develops QINLOCK™ (ripretinib) for the Treatment of Fourth-Line Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors in Adults
Deciphera Pharmaceuticals has developed QINLOCK™ (ripretinib) 50mg capsules for the treatment of advanced gastrointestinal stromal tumour (GIST) in adult patients who have received prior treatment with three or more kinase inhibitors, including imatinib.
Gastrointestinal stromal tumour is a type of tumour that occurs in the gastrointestinal tract, particularly the stomach or small intestine, arising from specialized cells called interstitial cells. Common symptoms of this condition include weight loss, anemia, weakness, abdominal pain or swelling, fatigue, nausea, vomiting (including vomiting of blood), black stools, and general discomfort.
QINLOCK is classified as a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, primarily targeting the growth of KIT kinase and PDGFRα kinase, including both primary and secondary mutations. This medication effectively addresses a wide range of KIT and PDGFRα mutations that activate GIST. QINLOCK is available in the form of oral tablets, with a prescribed daily dose of 150mg that can be taken with or without food.
Some of the potential adverse reactions associated with QINLOCK include vomiting, nausea, hair loss (alopecia), abdominal pain, fatigue, decreased appetite, muscle pain (myalgia), constipation, diarrhea, and palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia syndrome, which is characterized by a skin reaction affecting the palms and soles.
QINLOCK has undergone clinical trials and has demonstrated its efficacy as a promising new therapy for patients with complex GIST disease who have previously received traditional tyrosine kinase inhibitors. It provides a treatment option for patients with high unmet medical needs in this context.
