Vetter Breaks Ground on New $285M Clinical Center in Des Plaines
Introduction
Vetter, a global contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO), has officially started construction of a new clinical manufacturing facility in Des Plaines, Illinois. The project, with an investment of around $285 million, is designed to expand the company’s capacity in early clinical filling and strengthen its presence in the United States.
Features
The new site will cover approximately 160,000 square feet and include state-of-the-art facilities for aseptic manufacturing.
Plans also feature process areas for material preparation and compounding, alongside additional buildings for laboratories, storage, and offices. Once operational, the site will take over the company’s current clinical activities in Skokie.
With a total property size of 860,000 square feet, the Des Plaines location allows space for further expansion in line with global market demand.
The development is part of Vetter’s broader international growth strategy, complementing its existing clinical site in Rankweil, Austria, and ongoing investment projects in Germany.
The construction is expected to support local economic growth by creating skilled employment opportunities in the Chicago suburban area.
The new facility is scheduled to be completed and prepared for media fill by the end of 2029.
