Vertex to Expand Cell, Gene Therapy R&D Center in Boston

With a new lab facility near the Seaport, Vertex Pharmaceuticals is increasing its footprint in Boston.
Features:
The 344,000 square foot extension will support Vertex's development strategy and expansion and will be a significant step forward in the company's R&D and manufacturing capabilities for cell and genetic therapies.
Vertex is putting 400 people to work on advanced medicines for sickle cell disease, beta-thalassemia, Type 1 diabetes, and Duchenne muscular dystrophy at the Jeffrey Leiden Center for Cell and Genetic Therapies (Leiden I), which has 70% of its space allocated to lab and research space.
Leiden II, a new cell and genetic treatments research and manufacturing centre, will be able to accommodate up to 500 more staff.
The facility in Leiden II is scheduled to be finished in 2025.
