SK pharmteco Plans More Than US$200 Million Investment in Small Molecule and Peptide Manufacturing
Introduction
SK pharmteco is planning a five-year investment of more than US$200 million to expand and modernise its pharmaceutical development and manufacturing operations in the United States. The programme will strengthen capabilities for small molecules and peptides while supporting a more resilient domestic supply network and growing demand from customers.
Features
The investment programme will cover several technology and infrastructure areas across SK pharmteco’s US operations.
New development laboratories will support pharmaceutical programmes from early research through later-stage development for both small molecules and peptides.
The company also plans to increase peptide production capabilities through new GMP kilo-scale capacity.
Additional liquid chromatography systems will support purification and processing activities.
For small-molecule APIs, SK pharmteco will develop new manufacturing suites and upgrade existing GMP facilities.
The programme will also include improvements to utilities, logistics and digital infrastructure, alongside investments in technologies designed to improve energy efficiency and sustainability.
The five-year programme is expected to create approximately 100 skilled, long-term jobs in the US and strengthen domestic capabilities in API and peptide production, as well as advanced therapy supply.
The US expansion forms part of SK pharmteco’s wider international manufacturing strategy, which includes recent investments in California, Ireland and South Korea to increase its global development and production capacity.
