SCHOTT Pharma Invests $60M to Expand Glass Vial Production in Pennsylvania

Introduction

SCHOTT Pharma has completed a major expansion of its manufacturing facility in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, with an investment exceeding USD 60 million. Supported largely by BARDA, the project increases domestic production of pharmaceutical glass vials, strengthens supply chain resilience, and supports the growing demand for advanced drug packaging solutions.

Features

The expansion introduces new production lines for both standard and sterile ready-to-use (RTU) glass vials used in the storage of biologics, vaccines, emergency medicines and other injectable therapies.

The facility has been equipped with advanced manufacturing technologies, upgraded infrastructure and modernised production systems to improve operational efficiency and increase output.

The project significantly expands annual production capacity for core borosilicate glass vials while more than tripling local capacity for high-value vial solutions.

Among the products manufactured at the site are adaptiQ® RTU vials and EVERIC® pure vials.

The Lebanon facility holds a strategic position within SCHOTT Pharma’s global network.
It is one of only two company sites worldwide capable of producing EVERIC® pure vials and the sole facility manufacturing adaptiQ® pre-washed and pre-sterilised RTU vials for both domestic and international markets.

The expanded production capabilities support key pharmaceutical trends, including the increasing use of biologics, biosimilars, vaccines and advanced therapies such as antibody-drug conjugates.
