Pharmaron Invests US$189 million for Gene Therapy CDMO Expansion in UK

Pharmaron Beijing Co., Limited has allocated a significant investment of US$189 million towards the expansion of its Liverpool-based Gene Therapy CDMO (Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization) in the United Kingdom.

This significant investment is intended to facilitate the growth and enhancement of the facility, enabling it to cater to the rising demand and advancements in the field of gene therapy.
Pharmaron will increase the size of its facility to 8,000 sqM. This expansion aims to quadruple the capacity for gene therapy process development and analytical services, enabling the facility to handle viral vector, DNA, and RNA drug substances, as well as drug product formulation. Additionally, a dedicated 3,500 sqM space will be allocated for future commercial-scale GMP capacity.
When completed, the expanded facility will considerably improve Pharmaron's ability to deliver a larger range of services to customers who use vaccines, cells, and gene therapy. Furthermore, it will allow the company to continue expanding its research team in Liverpool.
This expansion is required to meet ongoing growth that surpasses the capacity of the existing cutting-edge development and GMP facility, which will remain fully operational throughout the expansion project.
Construction on the expansion project began in January 2023, with the facility expected to be completed in 2024.
