Novo Nordisk to Invest $4.1 Billion in Expanding US Manufacturing Capacity

Introduction

Novo Nordisk has announced a $4.1 billion USD (approximately 27 billion Danish kroner) investment to build a new fill and finishing manufacturing facility in Clayton, North Carolina.

Features

This facility will expand the company's capacity to produce injectable treatments for obesity and other serious chronic diseases.

The new facility will add 1.4 million square feet of production space for aseptic manufacturing and finishing processes.

This expansion will double the combined square footage of Novo Nordisk’s existing facilities in North Carolina.

The project will create 1,000 new jobs, increasing the total number of Novo Nordisk employees in the region to nearly 3,500.

Utilizing state-of-the-art technology, the facility will feature rooftop solar panels and innovative water strategies to ensure efficiency and environmental sustainability.

The goal is to achieve LEED Gold certification, a recognized standard for environmentally sustainable buildings.

Early clearing and foundational work on the 56-acre site have already begun, with construction expected to be completed between 2027 and 2029.

At the peak of construction, approximately 2,000 external contractors will be involved in the project.
