Novartis Expands U.S. Footprint with $23B North Carolina Manufacturing Hub
Introduction
Novartis has announced plans to establish a new flagship manufacturing hub in North Carolina, part of a broader $23 billion investment in U.S.-based infrastructure. The expansion will centralise production of key medicines, strengthen domestic supply chains, and create hundreds of new jobs in the state.
Features
The project will include the construction of multiple new facilities: two in Durham for biologics and sterile packaging, one in Morrisville for solid dosage tablets and capsules, and an expansion of the existing Durham site to support sterile filling of biologics into syringes and vials.
Together, the facilities will form an integrated hub covering the company’s main therapeutic areas, including oncology, immunology, neuroscience, and cardiovascular, renal and metabolic diseases.
The hub will allow Novartis to produce active ingredients, carry out final packaging, and operate end-to-end manufacturing under one geographic network, increasing efficiency and resilience of the U.S. supply chain.

The flagship hub is anticipated to open between 2027 and 2028.
