Genentech Expands Holly Springs Operations with $2B Investment
Introduction:
Genentech has more than doubled its investment in a new biomanufacturing facility in Holly Springs, North Carolina, bringing the total commitment to around $2 billion. The expansion forms part of Roche and Genentech’s $50 billion investment in U.S. manufacturing and R&D and supports the company’s first East Coast facility.
Features:
The facility will significantly increase production capacity and output, focusing on next-generation treatments for metabolic conditions such as obesity.
Advanced biomanufacturing, automation, and digital technologies will be used to improve efficiency and sustainability.
The project will support more than 2,000 jobs, including over 500 high-wage manufacturing roles and 1,500 construction positions.
Holly Springs was chosen for its skilled workforce, strong academic institutions, and proximity to other leading life science companies in the Raleigh-Durham region.
The expansion strengthens Genentech’s U.S.-based supply chain and contributes to the company’s broader strategy of domestic production and innovation.
The facility is expected to be operational by 2029.
