FUJIFILM Invests $200 Million to Expand iPSC Manufacturing Facility in Madison
Introduction
FUJIFILM Cellular Dynamics Inc. has opened a new headquarters and induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) development and manufacturing facility in Madison, Wisconsin. The project is part of Fujifilm’s previously announced $200 million investment programme and is intended to meet the growing demand for stem cell-based research products, services and future cell therapy manufacturing.
Key Features
A major feature of the new 175,000-square-foot facility is its ability to increase the company’s manufacturing capacity for iPSC-based research products and services by four times.
The site is equipped with advanced cell culture manufacturing laboratories, process development laboratories and a specialised gene-editing centre of excellence.
These capabilities support the production of research-grade iPSC products as well as development services for companies working on next-generation cell therapies.
The facility has been designed with scalability in mind, allowing operations to expand from investigational drug manufacturing to large-scale commercial production of cell therapy products as market demand grows.
The expanded infrastructure will also strengthen production of the company’s iPSC-derived iCell product portfolio, which is increasingly used in drug discovery and safety testing applications.
