Evonik Announces US$100 Million Modernization of U.S. Drug Substance CDMO Facility
Introduction
Evonik has announced a US$100 million investment to modernize its Tippecanoe Labs manufacturing site in Lafayette, Indiana, over the next five years. The investment is aimed at strengthening the company's U.S. drug substance contract development and manufacturing (CDMO) capabilities by upgrading key production infrastructure, enhancing operational efficiency, and supporting the growing demand for domestic active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing.
Features
The modernization project includes upgrades to large-scale reactors and other critical manufacturing systems to improve equipment reliability, increase automation, enhance workplace ergonomics, and boost manufacturing efficiency across the facility.
The investment will strengthen Evonik's capability to manufacture increasingly complex small-molecule APIs, including high-potency compounds used in oncology, metabolic, and cardiovascular therapies, while supporting next-generation, energy-efficient manufacturing technologies.
The project reinforces Evonik's North American CDMO footprint, improving regional supply chain resilience and balancing its global manufacturing network across North America, Europe, and Asia.
The investment is expected to secure more than 650 existing jobs at the Tippecanoe Labs site, support long-term pharmaceutical manufacturing growth in the United States, and contribute to the economic development of the Greater Lafayette region.
