Eli Lilly to Invest $5 Billion in New Manufacturing Facility in Virginia
Introduction:
Eli Lilly and Company plans to build a $5 billion pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Goochland County, west of Richmond, Virginia.
This will be the company’s first fully integrated site for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and drug products, focusing on its bioconjugate platform and monoclonal antibody portfolio.
Features:
The facility will support the production of antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), targeted therapies primarily used for cancer and potentially other diseases.
Advanced technologies such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, and automation will ensure efficient and safe production.
The project will create over 650 permanent high-skilled jobs, including engineers, scientists, operations staff, and laboratory technicians, and around 1,800 construction jobs.
Each dollar invested is expected to generate up to four dollars in local economic activity.
Lilly will also collaborate with local universities and support educational initiatives, while prioritising safety, sustainability, and minimal environmental impact.
The new facility is expected to open in 2030.
