Alnylam Plans Major $250M Manufacturing Facility Expansion in Massachusetts
Introduction
Alnylam Pharmaceuticals has announced a $250 million investment to expand its advanced manufacturing site in Norton, Massachusetts. The project will add a new enzymatic ligation platform to support the growing global demand for RNA interference (RNAi) therapies. The expansion will strengthen Alnylam’s ability to produce small interfering RNA (siRNA) medicines at scale and support future product launches from its expanding pipeline.

The investment will develop what is expected to be the industry’s first fully dedicated, in-house siRNA enzymatic ligation manufacturing facility.
The new platform, known as siRELIS™, is designed to increase production capacity while reducing manufacturing time, material use and overall costs.
It uses a more efficient method to assemble RNA molecules, allowing larger volumes to be produced within a single facility and with a lower environmental footprint.
The expansion will enhance its ability to support medicines across multiple disease areas, including cardiovascular, metabolic and rare conditions.
Construction work at the Norton facility is already underway. The new manufacturing capabilities are expected to be fully operational by late 2027.
