Rewriting Cancer returns for second film series produced for UICC by BBC StoryWorks
Tuesday, June 23, 2026
The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) is pleased to present the second series of Rewriting Cancer, featuring 13 films that explore the changing face of cancer around the world.
Produced for UICC by BBC StoryWorks Commercial Productions, Rewriting Cancer celebrates the inspiring stories of the people redefining what cancer means, from early detection and education, to closing care gaps worldwide and finding ways to continue living fully.
“This new cancer series shows once again how important it is to hear from people affected by cancer, and how their experience can inform decisions that shape how health care is delivered. They are real stories, from different settings, that tell a unique journey, but together they provide a clearer picture of where we are making progress in cancer care, why there is reason to hope, and where more needs to be done.”
– Cary Adams, CEO of UICC
The series builds on the incredible reach and resonance of series one, which saw over 130 million impressions and 35 million engagements across social media, and three million page views to the series hubsite.
Rewriting Cancer invites audiences to explore three new chapters:
- Protecting communities: How education and early detection can help cancer outcomes
- Closing the gap: Improving access to cancer services
- Redefining care: Innovating how cancer is prevented and treated
The content of Rewriting Cancer offers a hopeful and powerful journey, told by the people who are navigating the daily reality of living and working with cancer. The series spotlights untold stories, such as the breast cancer screening bus that tours the rural towns and villages of the US, or the first in-country trained gynaecological oncologist on the island nation of Fiji and the Pacific Islands.
“Diagnosis doesn't have to mean the end […], sometimes it's the beginning of a whole new kind of life.”
– Dolly, cancer survivor in the film Developing more accessible treatments, paid and presented by Biocon.
Through these stories, Rewriting Cancer celebrates people doing extraordinary things to improve lives affected by cancer.
Audiences can explore the series at a dedicated page on the UICC website. \
