ViVerita Therapeutics Collaborates with Boehringer Ingelheim to Advance Cancer Target Discovery
Thursday, May 08, 2025
ViVerita Therapeutics, a US-based company specialising in precision oncology, has entered into a research collaboration with Boehringer Ingelheim to accelerate the identification and validation of new therapeutic targets for cancer treatment. As part of the agreement, ViVerita will use its advanced in vivo CRISPR-based discovery platform to assess a selection of potential targets provided by Boehringer Ingelheim, evaluating their role under physiologically relevant conditions.
Cancer remains a major global health challenge, responsible for one in six deaths worldwide. Despite ongoing research efforts, treatment options for many forms of cancer are still limited. One contributing factor is the reliance on a narrow set of known drug targets during drug development. Through this collaboration, Boehringer Ingelheim aims to address this limitation and explore new treatment possibilities.
Traditional methods for identifying cancer targets often involve in vitro studies using cell lines. While these models have supported key scientific advances, they do not fully replicate the complex environment found in actual tumours. As a result, many targets identified in vitro fail to show effectiveness in vivo.
ViVerita’s platform combines high-throughput genetic screening with disease models that more accurately reflect human biology. This approach supports the identification of cancer-related targets that have been difficult to pursue and allows for large-scale testing of targets discovered through other methods.
The partnership aligns with Boehringer Ingelheim’s broader strategy to uncover clinically meaningful cancer drivers and develop innovative therapies for patients who currently have limited treatment options.
