Viralgen Partners with Trogenix to Advance AAV Gene Therapy for Glioblastoma

Wednesday, May 07, 2025

Viralgen, a leading contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) specialising in recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV) gene therapies, has entered into a strategic partnership with Trogenix, a biotech company focused on developing innovative cancer therapies.

As part of the collaboration, Viralgen successfully scaled-up and completed a good manufacturing practice (GMP) clinical trial material batch of Trogenix’s rAAV gene therapy, TGX-007, within 12 months. This achievement has helped speed up the programme’s progress towards first-in-human (FIH) clinical trials for glioblastoma, a highly aggressive and treatment-resistant form of brain cancer.

In addition to manufacturing, Viralgen has developed a gene-specific titration method and a custom formulation buffer for the drug product’s administration. These efforts aim to support the continued advancement of Trogenix’s gene therapy.

Viralgen’s expertise in rAAV vector manufacturing and scalability is helping to accelerate key clinical therapeutic programmes. The company is pleased to contribute to Trogenix’s innovative approach in oncology gene therapy, which could offer potential curative responses for glioblastoma and other cancers.

Trogenix’s proprietary Synthetic Super-Enhancers (SSEs) platform, Odysseus™, is designed to create precision genetic medicines targeting the disease cell state. Following the successful production of the first GMP batch of Trogenix’s rAAV vector at Viralgen’s cutting-edge facility, TGX-007 is now progressing towards clinical evaluation, with the aim of reaching patients in need.

Glioblastoma, the most common form of brain cancer, remains a devastating disease with a poor prognosis and limited treatment options. Trogenix aims to transform cancer treatment by shifting from chronic disease management to a potentially curative one-time treatment. By partnering with Viralgen, the company can rapidly scale product supply and bring the therapy to patients as quickly as possible.

This collaboration highlights Viralgen’s commitment to advancing AAV-based therapies by providing scalable, high-quality manufacturing solutions, helping to deliver treatments to patients faster.
