TNF Pharmaceuticals and Renova Health Apply AI to Support Drug Development

Wednesday, April 23, 2025

TNF Pharmaceuticals, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on therapies for autoimmune and inflammatory conditions, is working with Renova Health to apply artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning in drug development. The collaboration aims to identify high-risk patients who could benefit most from treatments that help preserve lean muscle mass during the use of GLP-1 medications. These medicines are commonly used for managing diabetes, weight loss, and long-term weight control.

Aligned with recent draft guidance from the US Food and Drug Administration on the use of AI in clinical research, the partnership is analysing data from 30,000 patients. The insights will support the recruitment of appropriate patient groups for future studies, particularly those involving TNF’s investigational treatment, isomyosamine.

Renova Health’s advanced AI platform uses natural language processing (NLP) and large language models (LLM) to review large sets of patient records efficiently. This helps TNF Pharmaceuticals identify patient groups with chronic conditions such as diabetes, COPD, chronic kidney disease, or sarcopenia. It also considers patients who have recently experienced inflammation-related medical events—such as falls or fractures—and are taking GLP-1 therapies.

By building detailed patient profiles and examining treatment patterns across healthcare providers, the platform helps ensure that clinical studies focus on those most likely to benefit from isomyosamine. This approach is expected to speed up the research process and improve outcomes by targeting more specific patient populations.
