Thermo Fisher Scientific and Sanofi expand partnership to boost U.S. drug manufacturing capacity

Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced the expansion of its strategic collaboration with Sanofi to strengthen drug product manufacturing capabilities in the United States. As part of the agreement, Thermo Fisher will acquire Sanofi’s sterile manufacturing facility located in Ridgefield, New Jersey. Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.
The Ridgefield site is a modern fill-finish and packaging plant, equipped to handle sterile drug production. Over 200 employees currently working at the facility are expected to transition to Thermo Fisher following completion of the transaction, which is anticipated in the second half of 2025, subject to standard regulatory approvals.
Following the acquisition, Thermo Fisher will continue producing Sanofi’s therapies at the site while also expanding its use to meet increasing demand from pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients for domestic manufacturing solutions. The move aligns with Thermo Fisher’s ongoing efforts to enhance its manufacturing network across the U.S., which already includes facilities in Greenville, North Carolina, and Plainville, Massachusetts.
The Ridgefield site will be integrated into Thermo Fisher’s pharma services business under its Laboratory Products and Biopharma Services segment. This addition supports the company’s broader CDMO and CRO offerings through its Accelerator™ Drug Development 360° platform, designed to streamline the development and delivery of innovative medicines.
The partnership expansion aims to ensure continued supply of Sanofi products for the U.S. market, while supporting future growthof the Ridgefield facility.
