Teva launches AHZANTIVE biosimilar to Eylea across Europe
Friday, June 05, 2026
Teva Pharmaceutical Industries has launched AHZANTIVE (aflibercept), a biosimilar to Eylea, in Europe, expanding its biosimilars portfolio and strengthening its presence in the ophthalmology sector.
The launch is part of Teva’s strategy to grow its biosimilars business in areas with significant patient demand and to improve access to biologic medicines through partnerships, commercial capabilities and a reliable supply network.
The rollout of AHZANTIVE pre-filled syringes began in May 2026 in several European countries, including France, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands. The company plans to introduce the product in additional markets later this year. The launch follows Teva’s semi-exclusive commercialisation agreement with Klinge Biopharma GmbH and Formycon AG covering major parts of Europe and Israel.
AHZANTIVE is a biosimilar version of Eylea (aflibercept) and has demonstrated comparable efficacy, safety and immunogenicity to the reference medicine. The product received approval from the European Commission in 2025 for the treatment of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD), diabetic macular oedema (DME), visual impairment caused by myopic choroidal neovascularisation (CNV), and macular oedema following retinal vein occlusion (RVO).
These chronic retinal conditions can threaten vision and place a significant burden on patients, caregivers and healthcare systems. The availability of AHZANTIVE is expected to increase access to biosimilar treatment options while providing healthcare professionals with an additional therapeutic choice.
Teva stated that the launch adds an important treatment option for patients living with serious sight-threatening conditions and supports the sustainability of healthcare systems through wider use of biosimilar medicines.
The company currently markets 11 biosimilars worldwide and has 13 additional biosimilar candidates in development across therapeutic areas including oncology, immunology, ophthalmology and respiratory care. Teva continues to expand its biosimilars business through strategic partnerships and long-term efforts to improve patient access to biologic treatments.
