Roche’s US subsidiary Genentech begins construction of advanced manufacturing facility in North Carolina
Tuesday, August 26, 2025
Genentech, part of the Roche Group, has started construction on a new manufacturing site in Holly Springs, North Carolina. This marks the company’s first production facility on the East Coast of the United States.
The 65,000 m² site will focus on producing Genentech’s future range of metabolic medicines, including next-generation treatments for obesity. The initial investment is valued at over $700 million and forms part of Roche’s wider $50 billion plan to strengthen manufacturing and research infrastructure in the US. The project is expected to generate more than 1,900 jobs.
Holly Springs was chosen for its growing life sciences hub, access to a skilled workforce, strong academic presence, and proximity to leading biopharmaceutical companies.
Scheduled for completion in 2029, the facility will be equipped with advanced automation, digital technologies, and sustainable biomanufacturing systems. Built on a 400,000 m² lot, the site also allows for future expansion.
Once operational, the facility will boost Roche’s global manufacturing capacity, reinforce supply chain reliability, and complement its existing network of production sites in Europe and Switzerland.
