QIAGEN extends QIAstat-Dx's reach into precision medicine with a new partnership for companion diagnostics in chronic diseases
Thursday, August 29, 2024
QIAGEN has announced the expansion of its Master Collaboration Agreement with AstraZeneca to develop and commercialize companion diagnostics (CDx) for AstraZeneca’s upcoming therapies targeting chronic diseases.
As part of the agreement, QIAGEN will develop and validate a genotyping assay using its syndromic testing platform, QIAstat-Dx. This test aims to enable specialty care providers to perform genotyping during routine clinical examinations, allowing for rapid decision-making regarding the suitability of AstraZeneca’s genomically targeted medicines.
“We are pleased to expand our partnership with AstraZeneca into new disease areas using our QIAstat‑Dx system and to develop together the first companion diagnostic for chronic diseases based on this platform”, said Fernando Beils, Senior Vice President, Head of the Molecular Diagnostics Business Area at QIAGEN. “The development of the QIAstat-Dx genotyping assay with AstraZeneca showcases QIAGEN’s expertise in companion diagnostic development and commercialization, utilizing the most suitable molecular testing platform to meet the unique clinical and commercial needs of patient testing.”
The QIAstat-Dx system is designed for laboratory use, utilizing cost-effective, single-use cartridges with integrated sample processing and on-board reagents. It employs multiplex real-time PCR to detect and differentiate multiple biomarkers, delivering results in about an hour. The system also provides easy-to-view cycle threshold (Ct) values and amplification curves, offering additional insights beyond what end-point PCR or other techniques can provide. By the end of 2023, QIAGEN had placed over 4,000 QIAstat-Dx instruments globally.
QIAGEN, a pioneer in precision medicine, leads the industry in collaborating with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to develop companion diagnostics that detect genetic abnormalities and guide clinical decision-making. With a comprehensive range of technologies, including PCR, digital PCR (dPCR), and next-generation sequencing (NGS), QIAGEN is uniquely positioned to tailor products to meet its partners' specific needs.
The company has master collaboration agreements with more than 30 global companies to develop and commercialize companion diagnostics, contributing to the advancement of precision medicine, which tailors treatments to a patient’s genetic profile. Additionally, QIAGEN has ongoing collaborations with Neuron23 and Helix to develop companion diagnostics in disease areas outside of oncology.
