Oxford Nanopore Technologies and Plasmidsaurus Partner to Advance Plasmid Sequencing Technology

Wednesday, July 24, 2024

Oxford Nanopore Technologies and Plasmidsaurus have entered into an expanded, multi-year collaboration to transform the plasmid sequencing industry using advanced nanopore technology.

Plasmidsaurus, recognized for its rapid whole-plasmid sequencing service, offers industry-leading speed and quality, delivering results overnight with rich datasets. Since its establishment in 2021, Plasmidsaurus has launched nine labs across three countries and is enhancing its global network with 660 dropboxes and labs in major biotech regions, including new facilities in the US, Europe, and Asia. The company began using Oxford Nanopore technology in 2021.

Conventional sequencing methods, such as Sanger, face limitations with short read lengths, primer dependencies, and difficulties with GC-rich or repetitive DNA. Oxford Nanopore's technology provides real-time, long-read sequencing that addresses these issues, offering a more efficient and cost-effective solution that significantly reduces the time spent on faulty plasmid analysis.

Gordon Sanghera, CEO of Oxford Nanopore, remarked, "Our partnership with Plasmidsaurus is driving innovation in synthetic biology and biotechnology by leveraging the unique capabilities of nanopore technology. This collaboration will lead to significant growth in the market and deliver superior sequencing services globally."

The two companies will also collaborate on developing new technologies, reagents, and applications beyond plasmid sequencing, including for microbial and gene therapy, to meet the evolving needs of the industry.

Mark Budde, CEO of Plasmidsaurus, said, "Oxford Nanopore's advanced sequencing technology has been transformative. We are eager to work together to create solutions that address the diverse needs of biotech researchers worldwide."

Plasmidsaurus is committed to advancing scientific research and improving global health by enhancing DNA tools for researchers. Their sequencing services are essential for thousands of innovators, including Nobel laureates, biotech startups, pharmaceutical companies, research laboratories, and biohackers. Operating continuously, Plasmidsaurus’s labs play a crucial role in facilitating groundbreaking discoveries.
