Oxford Nanopore and A.D.A.M. Innovations Partner to Advance Genomic Medicine in Japan

Wednesday, March 18, 2026

Oxford Nanopore Technologies and A.D.A.M. Innovations have announced an international collaboration to expand the use of advanced genomic sequencing and support the development of precision medicine in Japan.

In the initial phase, the partnership aims to introduce Oxford Nanopore’s real-time sequencing technology into A.D.A.M. Innovations’ genetic testing services. This is expected to support faster and more accurate genomic testing across a range of diseases. The collaboration will focus on developing clinical workflows aligned with Japan’s validation standards, enabling scalable sequencing of DNA fragments of varying lengths. This approach is intended to provide more complete genomic information and improve testing accuracy compared with existing methods.

A memorandum of understanding was signed at the British Embassy Tokyo, highlighting growing cooperation between the UK and Japan in the life sciences sector. The initiative supports the objectives of the 2024 UK–Japan Health Memorandum of Cooperation, which promotes closer collaboration in genomics and healthcare innovation.

The partnership brings together complementary expertise from both organisations to strengthen genomic capabilities in Japan. It is expected to support earlier and more precise diagnosis, while also contributing to wider efforts to advance translational research and clinical adoption of genomic technologies.

The collaboration also reflects increasing engagement between the UK and Japan in science and technology, supported by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, with a focus on improving patient outcomes through innovation.
