Nxera Pharma Reaches Key Development Milestone in Partnership with Eli Lilly for Metabolic Disease Treatments

Nxera Pharma Co., Ltd. has reached a significant development milestone as part of its ongoing multi-target collaboration and licence agreement with Eli Lilly and Company. This achievement relates to research efforts focused on diabetes and other metabolic diseases. As a result, Nxera is set to receive a milestone payment from Lilly, although the specific amount has not been disclosed. The payment is expected during the third quarter of the financial year ending December 2025.
The partnership, which began in 2022, combines Nxera’s expertise in structure-based drug design for G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) with Lilly’s experience in drug development, commercialisation, and therapeutic areas. The latest progress confirms the effectiveness of Nxera’s NxWave™ platform in identifying small molecule binders for GPCR targets and determining the receptor structures alongside these molecules, allowing for precise understanding of binding interactions. Following this milestone, Lilly will take over responsibility for further development and commercialisation of the relevant compounds.
As part of the agreement, Nxera remains eligible for further development and commercial milestone payments of up to US$694 million, in addition to tiered royalties based on global sales.
This milestone marks an important step forward in the collaboration, supporting the shared goal of advancing innovative treatments for diabetes and other metabolic conditions with high unmet medical need.
