Norgine Expands Rare Disease Portfolio with Acquisition of Theravia

Thursday, April 17, 2025

Norgine has announced the acquisition of Theravia, an international pharmaceutical company focused on treatments for rare and serious medical conditions. This move aligns with Norgine’s strategy to grow its presence in the rare disease and specialty medicine sectors through targeted acquisitions and in-licensing.

Theravia brings a strong track record in rare disease innovation, with a portfolio that includes SIKLOS®—used in the treatment of sickle cell disease—and ORPHACOL®, a therapy for a genetic liver disorder that affects bile production. These products enhance Norgine’s existing range in rare haematology and hepatology, offering complementary value to its current portfolio.

Recent agreements with Fennec Pharma for PEDMARQSI® and X4 Pharma for mavorixafor further reflect Norgine’s continued investment in expanding its rare disease offering. The acquisition of Theravia marks another step forward in this approach.

Theravia’s growth in recent years has been supported by Mérieux Equity Partners, a France-based investment firm with a focus on healthcare.

Following the acquisition, Norgine’s rare disease portfolio will consist of six core products: PEDMARQSI®, eflornithine, mavorixafor, AGILUS®, SIKLOS®, and ORPHACOL®. This collection forms a significant franchise expected to contribute to Norgine’s growth over the medium and long term.

The company aims to continue developing its rare disease platform, with plans to pursue further acquisitions and licensing opportunities in the future.
