Nona Biosciences and Lonza Collaborate on BBB-Crossing Technology for CNS Drug Development
Thursday, July 02, 2026
Nona Biosciences has entered into a strategic collaboration with Lonza to develop single-domain antibody-based blood-brain barrier (BBB)-crossing technology for the treatment of central nervous system (CNS) diseases.
The partnership will combine Nona Biosciences' Harbour Mice® fully human HCAb platform with Lonza's protein development capabilities, GS Gene Expression System® and GlycoConnect® bioconjugation technology. The collaboration aims to develop next-generation BBB-crossing technology that can improve the delivery of a wide range of therapeutic products into the central nervous system.
Nona's platform is designed to generate fully human heavy-chain antibodies (HCAbs) and VHH binders with high affinity and favourable development characteristics. By combining these capabilities with Lonza's expertise, the companies aim to optimise selected BBB-crossing candidates and expand their application in CNS drug development and technology licensing.
Under the agreement, Nona Biosciences will receive upfront and option payments from Lonza. The companies will also share revenue generated from future licensing agreements resulting from the collaboration.
The partnership is expected to accelerate the development and commercialisation of BBB-crossing technologies while supporting future licensing opportunities. It also enables the integration of technology licensing with contract development and manufacturing services, helping simplify the development process and speed up the advancement of new CNS therapies.
