Mission Bio Launches Single-Cell Genotype and Targeted Gene Expression Assay to Support Cancer Drug Development

Friday, June 06, 2025

Mission Bio has introduced a new Single-Cell Genotype and Targeted Gene Expression assay, marking a significant addition to its Tapestri® Platform. This is the first commercial solution that combines both genotype and targeted gene expression analysis from more than 10,000 single cells in a single run. The solution is designed to support pharmaceutical companies in reducing risks associated with late-stage cancer drug development.

The new assay is offered through Mission Bio’s Pharma Assay Development (PAD) services, which provide full support from assay design and development to data interpretation and technology transfer. It is especially relevant for use in Phase 2 and Phase 3 clinical trials, helping identify patients who are most likely to respond to cancer treatments.

The assay has three main areas of application: understanding resistance to therapies, supporting the development of advanced T-cell therapies, and improving patient selection for clinical trials. Traditional methods have struggled to fully reveal tumour diversity and treatment resistance, often leading to clinical trial failures. By capturing genetic mutations and gene expression changes in the same single cell, Mission Bio’s solution provides detailed insights into cancer progression and drug response.

A key benefit of the assay is its ability to reduce single-cell analysis costs by around 60% through sample multiplexing, compared to using multiple platforms to achieve similar results. The platform has already shown its potential in studies involving acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), where it has been used to track resistant cell populations and explore tumour structure.

Mission Bio plans to expand this integrated approach further by incorporating immunophenotyping into the assay, paving the way for a complete multi-omics solution that could offer even deeper insights into cancer biology and therapy response.
