Inventiva provides an update on the development of cedirogant by AbbVie

Monday, October 31, 2022

Inventiva, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company specializing in the development of oral small molecule therapies, made an announcement regarding the discontinuation of cedirogant (ABBV-157), an oral RORg inverse agonist developed in collaboration with AbbVie for the treatment of autoimmune diseases. This decision followed the analysis of a recently concluded nonclinical toxicology study. Despite this development, Inventiva's financial position remains unaffected, including the expected upfront payment from Sino Biopharm and funds from the EIB credit facility, allowing them to continue operations as planned through Q4 2023. Inventiva's focus now turns to the advancement of their lead asset, lanifibranor, a promising treatment currently in Phase III clinical development for non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), an area with a significant lack of approved treatments. The company is committed to the NATiV3 pivotal Phase III trial and has achieved a significant milestone by partnering with Sino Biopharm to potentially commercialize lanifibranor in Greater China. The collaboration between Inventiva and AbbVie, which began in 2012, aimed to identify potent RORg inverse agonists for autoimmune diseases, resulting in the discovery of cedirogant, which was undergoing evaluation in a Phase II clinical trial prior to AbbVie's decision to discontinue further development.
