Frontier Biotech and GSK Sign Global Exclusive Licensing Agreement for siRNA Therapies

Thursday, February 26, 2026

Frontier Biotechnologies Inc. has entered into a global exclusive licensing agreement with GSK for two of its small interfering RNA (siRNA) pipeline products.

Under the agreement, GSK will obtain exclusive worldwide rights to develop, manufacture and commercialise the two candidates. One product is currently at the Investigational New Drug (IND) stage, while the other remains at the preclinical stage.

Frontier Biotech will receive an upfront payment of $40 million. The company is also eligible to receive up to $963 million in development, regulatory and commercial milestone payments across the two programmes, along with tiered royalties on global net sales.

As part of the collaboration, Frontier Biotech will continue the early development of both assets. This includes advancing one candidate through a Phase I clinical trial in China and completing IND-enabling studies for the second candidate. GSK will take responsibility for further global clinical development, regulatory filings and commercial activities.

The agreement reflects Frontier Biotech’s capabilities in early-stage siRNA research and supports its wider international development strategy.

Oligonucleotide-based medicines, including siRNA therapies, have gained attention in recent years. These therapies work by silencing specific genes and can target disease pathways that are difficult to address with traditional treatments. Development efforts are expanding beyond rare diseases into more common chronic conditions, including cardiovascular, cerebrovascular and metabolic disorders.

The addition of the two siRNA candidates is expected to strengthen GSK’s immunology pipeline, particularly in inflammatory-driven kidney diseases, and aligns with its focus on platform technologies.
