FDA Grants Orphan Drug Designation to Medicovestor’s Innovative ADC for Pancreatic Cancer
Wednesday, June 18, 2025
Medicovestor, Inc., a biotechnology company focused on the development of advanced antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), has received Orphan Drug Designation (ODD) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its lead candidate, ADoBind MC001, intended for the treatment of pancreatic cancer.
Pancreatic cancer is one of the most severe and difficult-to-treat cancers, with a five-year survival rate of less than 10%. Treatment options have remained limited for several decades. ADoBind MC001 aims to meet this critical medical need by introducing a new generation of chemoimmunotherapy ADCs that combine targeted cancer cell destruction with immune system involvement.
Although detailed preclinical results have not been publicly disclosed, ADoBind MC001 includes several proprietary advancements that set it apart from existing ADC technologies. These include:
- Improved immune response: Built on an engineered dimeric IgG1 framework, the therapy not only delivers its anti-cancer payload but also activates the immune system to attack tumour cells.
- Efficient payload delivery: The structural design enables greater delivery of the therapeutic payload directly to the tumour.
- Stronger tumour binding: Enhanced avidity allows ADoBind MC001 to remain attached to tumour cells for longer, improving the effectiveness of the treatment.
- Wider targeting potential: By increasing the functional expression of the target antigen, the therapy may also be effective in tumours with lower antigen levels, expanding the number of patients who could benefit.
- Favourable pharmacokinetics: The candidate shows extended half-life and greater drug exposure, potentially offering improved treatment outcomes and convenience for patients.
Additional data is expected to be presented at upcoming scientific conferences and in future updates for partners and investors.
