Wednesday, January 17, 2024
EpiVario Inc., a leading biotechnology company specializing in neuroepigenetics for the treatment of addiction disorders, has recently finalized an asset purchase agreement with Metabomed LTD ("Metabomed"). This agreement involves the acquisition of Metabomed's portfolio of small molecule acetyl co-A synthetase-2 inhibitors ("ACSS2i"). The acquired assets include innovative, potent, and selective 'next-generation' ACSS2i, as well as other compounds previously developed by Metabomed for the treatment of advanced cancers, including the clinical candidate MTB9655.
This strategic transaction positions EpiVario with a valuable collection of novel and potent small molecule ACSS2 inhibitors, holding potential for the treatment of addiction disorders where ACSS2 is considered significant.
Thomas Kim, President and Chief Executive Officer of EpiVario, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, "The addition of Metabomed's ACSS2i portfolio equips EpiVario with a proprietary and next-generation selection of novel, potent, and selective small molecule ACSS2 inhibitors. We are excited about this collaboration with Metabomed, as it provides EpiVario with an advanced foundation to leverage Metabomed's expertise in ACSS2, potentially facilitating the rapid identification of an ACSS2i lead compound. This deal offers EpiVario a diverse range of novel, patent-protected compounds that could expedite our development program focused on addiction disorders, including opioid, cocaine, and alcohol addiction, as well as PTSD."
