CordenPharma to Acquire AmbioPharm to Expand Global Peptide API Capacity

Wednesday, May 27, 2026

CordenPharma has announced an agreement to acquire AmbioPharm, a US-based peptide active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO).

The acquisition will strengthen CordenPharma’s peptide manufacturing capabilities by adding AmbioPharm’s facilities in South Carolina, US, and Shanghai, China. The combined platform will provide a wider range of peptide API manufacturing technologies, including Solid-Phase Peptide Synthesis (SPPS), Liquid-Phase Peptide Synthesis (LPPS), hybrid synthesis, and CordenPharma’s Tag-Assisted Peptide Synthesis (TAPS).

Following the completion of the deal, customers will gain more manufacturing options for complex, long and high-purity peptide APIs.

AmbioPharm employs around 400 people across its two manufacturing sites. The acquisition will expand CordenPharma’s global network, which currently includes 11 facilities across Europe and North America. It will also increase the company’s peptide manufacturing capacity in the US while adding peptide supply operations in Shanghai.

The North Augusta facility in South Carolina will become CordenPharma’s second US peptide site and will mainly support purification and lyophilisation of peptide APIs. Together with the company’s Colorado site, it will strengthen fully US-based peptide API supply capabilities for large-scale commercial projects.

Meanwhile, the Shanghai campus will add advanced peptide manufacturing capacity for clinical and commercial supply, including upstream SPPS, LPPS and hybrid synthesis technologies, along with selected downstream capabilities.

With the integration of the North Augusta and Shanghai facilities, CordenPharma will expand its peptide development and manufacturing operations across three continents.

Since being acquired by Astorg in 2022, CordenPharma has continued to expand its peptide platform through strategic investments and additional manufacturing capacity. As part of the transaction, AmbioPharm shareholders will reinvest in the combined business, showing confidence in the future growth of the enlarged peptide platform.

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions. Financial details have not been disclosed.

Representatives from CordenPharma, AmbioPharm, Astorg and Carlyle Group highlighted that the acquisition is expected to strengthen the combined company’s global peptide CDMO capabilities and support future growth in peptide-based medicines.

BNP Paribas acted as the exclusive financial adviser to AmbioPharm.
