Tuesday, May 07, 2024

Chiesi Farmaceutici S.p.A, also known as Chiesi Group, and Gossamer Bio, Inc. (Nasdaq: GOSS), a biopharmaceutical company focused on seralutinib for treating pulmonary hypertension, have entered into a global collaboration and license agreement. Their aim is to advance the development and commercialization of seralutinib for patients worldwide.

This collaboration brings together the expertise of both Chiesi and Gossamer. Chiesi specializes in global respiratory and rare disease drug development, while Gossamer excels in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and pulmonary hypertension associated with interstitial lung disease (PH-ILD). Together, they seek to expand the reach of seralutinib to benefit more patients globally.

Chiesi Group, expressed enthusiasm for the potential of seralutinib, noting that the partnership with Gossamer aligns with their commitment to innovative healthcare solutions.

Gossamer, emphasized the significance of this collaboration, particularly in advancing seralutinib into a Phase 3 trial for PH-ILD, an area with limited treatment options.

Seralutinib, an inhaled inhibitor targeting PDGFRα/β, CSF1R, and c-KIT, shows promise in addressing pulmonary hypertension. Following positive Phase 2 results, Gossamer initiated the Phase 3 PROSERA Study in 2023. Plans include a global Phase 3 registrational study in PH-ILD in mid-2025, with potential exploration in other high unmet medical need indications.

Under the agreement, Gossamer leads global development for seralutinib in PAH and PH-ILD, with shared development costs except for the PROSERA Study. In the US, commercial profits and losses are evenly split, with Gossamer leading commercialization efforts and Chiesi handling additional indications. Outside the US, Chiesi holds exclusive commercialization rights and pays Gossamer royalties on net sales.

Chiesi will reimburse Gossamer $160 million for development, with potential regulatory and sales milestones totaling up to $326 million.

This collaboration underscores Chiesi's commitment to advancing respiratory disease treatments, aligning with their strategy to address unmet patient needs and support healthcare communities.
