Amprion Partners with MLM Medical Labs to Expand Alpha-Synuclein Testing in Europe

Amprion has entered into a strategic licensing agreement with MLM Medical Labs to expand access to alpha-synuclein seed amplification assay (SAA) testing for biopharmaceutical clinical trials across Europe.
Under the agreement, Amprion will license its proprietary SAA technology, which supports its SAAmplify®-αSYN test, to MLM Medical Labs. The German laboratory will validate and perform the testing in-house for biopharmaceutical sponsors conducting clinical trials across Europe.
SAAmplify®-αSYN is a clinical cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) testing service that detects misfolded alpha-synuclein aggregates. These proteins are associated with several neurodegenerative conditions, including Parkinson's disease, Lewy body dementia and multiple system atrophy, as well as Alzheimer's disease with Lewy body co-pathology.
Seed amplification assays can detect very small amounts of misfolded proteins in CSF. This can provide information about disease biology that may not be evident from symptoms or clinical assessments alone, supporting patient selection and biomarker-based research in clinical trials.
The partnership will enable MLM Medical Labs to offer alpha-synuclein SAA testing from its laboratory in Germany. The service is intended to support biopharmaceutical companies running multicentre clinical studies across Europe and improve access to pathology-based biomarker testing.
Amprion is also expanding its manufacturing capabilities to support growing international demand for SAA testing. The company has established SAA Protein Manufacturing LLC (SAAPM), a subsidiary focused on producing standardised protein substrates used in seed amplification assays.
The new manufacturing operation is intended to provide a reliable and scalable supply of substrates while improving consistency and reproducibility across neurodegenerative disease research, clinical testing and drug development.
The agreement adds to Amprion's international network of biopharmaceutical partnerships and expands access to alpha-synuclein testing for clinical trials in Europe. The company said the collaboration, together with its manufacturing expansion, supports its wider strategy to advance biomarker-based research and drug development in neurodegenerative diseases.
