Amneal Introduces BORUZU™, a Ready-to-Use Bortezomib Injection for Multiple Myeloma and Mantle Cell Lymphoma

Wednesday, April 02, 2025

Amneal Pharmaceuticals, Inc, a global biopharmaceutical company, has introduced BORUZU™, a ready-to-use bortezomib injection in the United States. Developed in collaboration with Shilpa Medicare Limited, this oncology treatment is available for subcutaneous or intravenous (IV) administration, reducing the need for compounding preparation steps.

BORUZU™, a proteasome inhibitor, is used to treat multiple myeloma and mantle cell lymphoma. It serves as an alternative to Velcade®, a lyophilised powder that requires reconstitution before use. Shilpa developed the molecule, while Amneal is responsible for manufacturing and commercialisation. Additionally, BORUZU™ has been assigned a unique J-code to support reimbursement processes.

The launch aligns with Amneal's strategy to expand its injectables portfolio with complex and high-impact products. By simplifying pharmacy preparation, the ready-to-use format is expected to benefit clinicians and enhance patient care. Shilpa's introduction of this product highlights its ongoing efforts to develop innovative pharmaceutical solutions aimed at improving healthcare accessibility and efficiency.

Clinical studies have identified common adverse reactions associated with BORUZU™, including asthenic conditions, diarrhoea, nausea, constipation, peripheral neuropathy, vomiting, pyrexia, thrombocytopenia, psychiatric disorders, anorexia, decreased appetite, neutropenia, neuralgia, leukopenia, and anaemia.
