Aligos Therapeutics signs exclusive licensing deal with Amoytop for HBV treatment in Greater China

Friday, April 17, 2026

Aligos Therapeutics has entered into an exclusive licensing agreement with Xiamen Amoytop Biotech Co., Ltd. to develop and commercialise pevifoscorvir sodium for chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in Greater China, including Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau.

Under the agreement, Aligos will receive an upfront payment of $25 million and is eligible for up to $420 million in clinical, regulatory, and sales milestone payments. The company will also receive tiered high single-digit royalties on net sales within the licensed territories. Aligos will retain development and commercial rights for the therapy in the United States, Europe, Japan, South Korea, and other markets, and will continue to conduct clinical trials in Greater China.

The partnership aims to support the development of pevifoscorvir sodium in a region with a high burden of HBV infection. Amoytop’s presence in the hepatology market is expected to support broader development and regulatory progress for the therapy.

Pevifoscorvir sodium is a capsid assembly modulator designed to target multiple stages of the HBV lifecycle. It has the potential to block viral replication, prevent viral DNA integration, and reduce the cccDNA reservoir, which are key factors in improving treatment outcomes.

The therapy is currently being evaluated in a Phase 2 clinical study comparing it with tenofovir disoproxil fumarate. Interim results are expected in the second half of 2026, with topline data anticipated in 2027.

The agreement is subject to approval by Amoytop’s shareholders and is expected to become effective following this process.
