Advarra Forms AI Council with Life Sciences Experts to Promote Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence in Clinical Trials

Thursday, June 19, 2025

Advarra, a leader in clinical research technology and regulatory review, has launched the Council for Responsible Use of AI in Clinical Trials. This newly formed group brings together experts from the life sciences industry to set standards, strengthen AI governance, and define outcomes to help apply artificial intelligence more effectively across clinical trial processes.

The Council is supported by founding members from organisations including Sanofi, Recursion, and Velocity Clinical Research. These members bring a wide range of experience in AI, machine learning, regulatory science, clinical operations, and data strategy. The Council aims to create a platform for cross-industry collaboration, drawing on Advarra’s position and knowledge of the challenges faced by research sites, sponsors, and contract research organisations (CROs).

The primary focus will be on promoting the responsible use of AI in clinical trials by developing shared standards, best practices, and frameworks. The group will also define performance indicators to measure the impact of AI on improving trial efficiency and long-term development outcomes.

Key objectives of the Council include:

  • Shaping a common vision for AI integration in clinical research
  • Creating safety and ethical guidelines for AI use
  • Setting measurable benchmarks to assess AI’s role in accelerating development timelines

The formation of the Council comes at a time when regulatory bodies such as the FDA are recognising the potential of AI but are also calling for clearer implementation strategies and frameworks. Through ongoing discussions, white papers, peer-reviewed articles, and webinars, the Council aims to promote transparency and encourage widespread adoption of responsible AI practices in clinical research.

In addition to producing published resources, the Council plans to host industry roundtables and work closely with regulators and standards organisations to ensure its guidance remains practical and future-ready.
